Come November, you will have a new weekend destination to relax and have fun on the beech in the midst of some greenery – at Tannirbavi.
The Forest Department is set to bring an ecotourism project on 25 acres of land on the beach. It will be around the guest house of the department.
The 25-acre patch between the sea and the road will be covered with chain link mesh with an entrance from Tannirbavi road. There will be a rear exit-cum-entry point on the sea side. The department will charge a fee at the Tannirbavi entrance. To get to the beach from the project site, you will need a pass, which can be used to get back to the park from the rear gate.
Adventure cycling track
According to Clifford Lobo, Range Forest Officer (RFO), Mangalore, the project area would have an adventure activities zone for both children and grown-ups, a play area for children, models of animals, a fountain, resting huts, a canteen, an adventure cycling track and a nursery where saplings will be sold.
He said that there would be ponne (Calophyllum inophyllum) trees in the project area. Its 4,000 saplings have already been planted.
In addition, 50 saplings of wild badam have been planted. They have grown well on the beach side. He said provision would be made to hold mini conferences with a stage in the middle of greenery in the project area.
Event organisers can take it from rent. The project area would have toilet and bathroom facilities. Mr. Lobo said that the entry and exit timings to the project area would be fixed and there would be security guards inside the area.
The RFO said that as there would be no permanent structures in the project area and the question of violation of coastal regulatory zone regulations would not arise. The official said the work on the project would begin in September and completed in two months.
