New Delhi: DMK MP Kanimozhi today approached the Supreme Court to quash charges against her in the 2G spectrum scam. Kanimozhi, who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha, has been charged along with A Raja and 14 others in the case.
Kanimozhi, the daughter of DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, has been charged with abetment to illegal gratification, and receiving Rs. 214 crore bribe as part of scam.
She holds 20 per cent shares in Kalaignar TV which allegedly received the money. She moved the Delhi High Court last year to discharge her from the case.
But the Supreme Court stayed it saying the High Court should not have interfered in this case when the top court was monitoring it.
In her petition to the top court, Kanimozhi said that the right to equality had been taken away by the Supreme Court which stayed her High Court proceedings in the case in November 2012.
She added that the right to fair trial has been taken away by the apex court and that the trial court ignored the fact that no charges were made out against her under the Prevention of Corruption Act and on the charges under conspiracy.
