Relatives and guardians of a section of patients in the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) have been forced to buy drinking water priced between Rs. 15 and Rs. 18 per litre for patients since Saturday following a disruption in supplies to a portion of one of the hospital buildings.
“Not only is there a scarcity of drinking water since Saturday, supplies to the toilets in the affected building has also stopped,” said Tapan Manna from Howrah, whose daughter has been admitted in the hospital for the past one month.
Supplies had been disrupted to the hospital’s Eden building that houses the casualty and maternity wards because of a problem in the outlet pipe.
“It was a case of the pipeline getting choked. Mechanics have finally been able to locate it and fix it,” said a PWD engineer.
