Hyderabad: Six people, including two children, have died in the Moula Ali area on the outskirts of Hyderabad after a wall collapsed on them at 1 am. Rescue workers pulled out two people from the debris.
The wall of an old building compound was reportedly damaged by the heavy rain that has lashed Andhra Pradesh over the last two days. Families of labours from Ranga Reddy and Mahbubnagar districts were living by the side in makeshift shelters.
Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire department, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the police were engaged in rescue operations, a senior police officer said.
The GHMC also announced Rs. 1 lakh as compensation to the families of those killed.
Several villages in the area have been cut-off by excessive water-logging.
About 3000 buildings and structures in Hyderabad have been listed as vulnerable.
