Mumbai: Actor Salman Khan faces the possibility of culpable homicide charges as he appears in a Mumbai court today for the framing of charges in a decade-old hit-and-run case.
The Mumbai sessions court, which had rejected the actor's plea against culpable homicide, is expected to frame charges today.
If found guilty, Salman Khan faces up to 10 Earlier, the 47-year-old actor had been charged with a lesser offence of causing death by rash and negligent driving, which would carry a maximum punishment of only two years in jail. But a magistrate's court enhanced it to a more serious culpable homicide charge in June.
Eleven years ago in September 2002, Mr Khan was allegedly driving a Toyota Land Cruiser when he ran over a group of people sleeping on the pavement outside a bakery in suburban Bandra. One person was killed and four others were injured in the accident.
In 1998, he spent three days in prison for killing the endangered black-buck deer in Rajasthan.
The actor has starred in many Hindi film blockbusters in recent years and is considered one of the biggest commercial draws at the box office.
