The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday launched offline registration for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting to be held here on August 11 by collecting a minimum of Rs.5 from each delegate.
Kicking off the registration, BJP State president G. Kishan Reddy said the objective behind the collection of the amount was to involve the youth in charity activities.
He said the amount would be donated for flood relief measures in Uttarakhand which experienced unprecedented calamity.
He said the registration was also launched in all districts simultaneously and the counters would function till the morning of August 11. The counters would also be opened in some colleges, besides the State party headquarters. Those who registered their names would be given ‘delegate cards’.
Seeking to counter Congress leaders’ criticism of the BJP move to collect entry fee for the public meeting, he said the Congress was worried about the growing popularity of Mr. Modi, especially among the youth.
Senior BJP leaders Bandaru Dattatreya and Ch.Vidyasagar Rao also spoke.
